Very nice community. The grounds are kept up. The staff was really helpful with all the questions that I had about the community. The community also was kept very clean and tidy.

This is the best home away from home for our mother!

reviewed on: 10/07/2020 by Dora W.

My 72-year-old mother has resided at Pacifica Senior Living in Escondido for more than five years and I must say that choosing this facility was the best & hardest decision my sister and I have ever made. At first, mom was reluctant to give up her apartment and live among strangers. She thought she was letting go of her freedom but this was far from the truth. We simply needed for someone to monitor her daily medications, prepare healthy meals and do light housecleaning. Mom could no longer do these simple tasks on her own and we were not able to provide the proper supervision. Walking into Pacifica is like walking into a warm-home like environment with many common areas that foster friendship and socialization. There are big comfy chairs, large TVs, a popcorn machine, a hair salon, a chapel, a lil store for necessities, a game room, planting boxes, and lots of outdoor seating with views of the manicured roses. The roses are my favorite. The front desk manager has answered the phone for years and seems to know the coming and going of every resident. No matter when I call, she tells me immediately how my mom is doing and where she is whether it is the dining room, vising with friends or taking a nap. When walking the hallway with my mom, the residents all seem to know her name. My mom feels popular. Residents share tips on the newest walkers & wheelchairs, who the new guy is, and pet the heads of the little dogs following behind. The cleaning staff is wonderful. They seem to have built a special bond with my mom and know exactly how she likes to keep her things. They close the door quickly so my mom's cat doesn't get out. On occasion, mom has asked to call me back because she has a friend over (the cleaning staff). The same is said for the nurses at Pacifica. Medications are provided several times per day by medical professionals. When we take mom away for the weekend, the nurse will pack a bag of her daily pills and instructions on time to take and if food is required. Speaking of food, the meals at Pacifica are terrific, nutritious and plentiful. When grandkids are visiting, the kitchen has made quesadillas, peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, chicken noodle soup, or a second helping of dessert on request. We all leave the table full, including those picky teenagers. Guests are always welcome and the grandkids love to visit. They say the place smells normal, not like old people, and there's always lots of food and lots of stuff to do. The calendar is posted with the daily activities including field trips, bingo, movie night, etc. The kids like the WII bowling. Due to the great leadership of Pacifica management, my mom has felt safe and independent. With the managers focus on love and hospitality, my sister and I feel a big sense of relief knowing mom is happy. We recently asked mom if she would like to come live with us and she said, “No thanks honey, I would miss my friends too much.” Thank you, Jackie and staff, for creating a home environment and loving the residents like family!

Room layout very good. Slow or no response to residence council. Maintenance slow to respond. Occasionally understaffed. Food generally good and tasty. Need more supervision of caregivers and servers. Activities Director doing a wonderful job - makes living here worthwhile

Review of Pacifica Senior Living

reviewed on: 05/14/2019 by Chuck

Hi everybody. I felt like I need to let you all know how grateful I am for mom's wellbeing and her living conditions. I know there are times when we have to be the squeaky wheel to management at Pacifica and adjusting to her evolving needs is not always comfortable but I spend enough time in other care facilities around town and she really is in about the best situation possible. I was visiting a lady at what used to be called Beverly Manor this evening. The minute I walked in there was cloud of depression and hopelessness, golden age folks in wheelchairs moaning, crying and looking at me hoping that I was there to visit them. With confidence I can tell you that mom is well cared for and loved. Her visits with Becky, Debbe and Julie are always followed up with a tender report to me about their time together. Becky and Debbe are on top of her physical and medical needs and are in close contact with "the brass" at Pacifica. Julie's visits with her 4 legged friend brings her so much joy as she tells all kinds of dog stories about Ted, Schultz, Fifi, Major, Bullet and others. Greg is so kind and has grown his beard primarily for her as she loves him to go cheek to cheek with her. She loves the stories about all of her grand and great grandchildren. I've walked in on conversations, mostly one sided of course, with some of her mates as she is proudly talking posterity from Mexico to Idaho, Utah, Arizona and so on. I don't know how long she'll be around but for the record she is really in a good place and enjoying life as well as could be expected. She has become a bit more bossy and demanding but also expresses remorse for being a butt. She also has a bishop and ministering brothers and sisters from church who never miss a visit. Once a month the Priests bring her the sacrament and Greg brings it twice a month. Mike Morasco will pop in and see her as he does PT with other residents. If you have visions or memories of visiting grandma Peterson and seeing those poor forgotten souls Vista Verde take comfort that she is NOT one of them. I don't know why her days have been stretched out so long in the twilight of her life but rest assured that our family and friends are in regular and frequent contact with her. She doesn't have the super grateful personality that will blanket us with platitudes and flowery superfluous dialogue. 🤪 But there are moments when this very strong minded and surviving pioneer product breaks down and is so grateful for the love you all have for her. She told me she hasn't earned the love she receives. I've expressed to her that the attention she is receiving is not based on whether or not she was a good, bad or negligent mother. It's based on care for her as a human soul and that relationships now are based on current events and not the past. Rarely are there conversations anymore about the past. Anyway I hope you all can feel good about her care and well being. I love you all! Chuck
