Learn more about taking the opportunity to show senior loved ones in assisted living how much you care this week.

Feeling at Home in Assisted Living

My grandmother has lived at an assisted living community in Gig Harbor, Washington for a couple of years. She didn’t necessarily settle in quickly, but she’s doing very well now. It’s important to me and her other loved ones that she feel nourished and at home there.

Initially, my grandmother would ask her grown children about what happened to her house. “What about my house?” she asked. Her house, I’m afraid, had be sold, but no one answered this question directly.

Gradually,  she stopped asking about the house and joined a committee that welcomes new residents. She soon created her very own sense of place in assisted living.

It is the support and care that assisted living communities provide that allows residents like my grandmother to achieve the secure mindset of being at home, and every time an assisted living resident suddenly feels at home in their new community rather than as a guest in a strangle place, something great has been achieved.

It’s the effort of all the staff and even veteran residents that allow positive transformations to take place, and is what we are celebrating this National Assisted Living Week 2015.

Thanking Caregivers on Assisted Living Week 2015

National Assisted Living Week is a great opportunity to thank the caregivers and staff at communities where you may have a loved one residing.

The caregivers who interact with your loved one the most and who provide for most of the day to day needs of your loved one, deserve a special thanks.

But every staff member at each assisted living community plays an important role in keeping our elders safe, comfortable and happy.

Thank assisted living providers everywhere this week!

You don't write about places in the country where it is simply too expensive to go to assisted living. I live in North New Jersey outside of NY City. We are pretty much the most expensive place in the country housing wise. I am not poor but assisted living here are buy-in situations and they keep your $ if you leave!!! you should look into that!

Great insights! I really appreciate your effort in posting all these ideas on assisted living. Assisted living is indeed one great avenue for seniors in order for them to experience the life they deserve. I absolutely agree with what is written here. I just hope that assisted living communities will always ensure that quality services are eventually given to their seniors since these services are due to them. Thanks!
