I have been very pleased.
reviewed on: 03/31/2014 by KarenI have been very pleased. I think you get a lot for your money, there seems to be a lot that they offer. At this point there really isn't anything that needs to be done better or improved. They have a choice at every meal, which is nice. It's run by the Virginia United Methodist Church, which is something that we really liked.

reviewed on: 02/13/2014 by Loved oneThey do a fantastic job with the care here, and watching out for Mom's overall health. She's in a safe environment with caregivers who are really on top of things. When I was looking into care options for her I looked through 5 years of the state health inspection records and this facility was one of the best in the state. They've really proven themselves. My Mom fell ill a few weeks ago, and an employee immediately realized it was more than just a cold or a flu and rushed her to the hospital, and the doctor told us if she had come in any more than an hour later she would likely have died of pneumonia. Another really great aspect of this community is that their maintenance department is outstanding. Any problems or simple installations you have (shelves, bathroom fixtures) they'll take care of quickly and professionally. They do have a few area I'd really like to see them improve on, however. Number one is the food. It is absolutely terrible. My Mom complains constantly, and I eat there myself once or twice a month and meals served for dinner have been uniformly awful. They are either tepid or outright cold. The activities also are not good. They are poorly organized and not advertised to the residents well. Those issues aside this really is a safe place, and the care they provide is amazing. I would recommend looking into this place during your search.

reviewed on: 09/23/2013 by DaphneInitially we were to go Assisted Living. On the "move in" day we were informed after 6PM that we needed to leave the property because the paperwork was not complete, this after sitting with Hermitage staff from 3-4PM to confirm that all the paperwork was complete. My relative ended up the next day at the Emergency room with a catheter. The Hermitage declines to support catheter management in Assisted Living, but did provide a room in their health Care facility. Next we moved out of the Assisted Living facility and terminated that contract. The Hermitage Health Care unit provides 24/7 care for high and low functional residents, meaning alzheimers and catheter management residents are cared for in the same facility without any separation. This was depressing to my high functioning relative. The overall quality of care was ok, but not great. We often found the urine bag full and in need of emptying, and the staff while friendly, made little attempt to engage with my relative, involve her in activities or proactively address her depression and condition. We moved to another facility after 30 days.
