By population count, the town of Essex is the largest town in Vermont and the second-largest municipality (after Burlington). It is home to the village of Essex Junction, which includes the state of Vermont's busiest Amtrak station and the state's largest private employer, GlobalFoundries. Vermont Route 289 crosses the town from east to west.
