Service company Uber, has been helping seniors with their on-demand transportation needs through their UberASSIST program for the last year. But now, the company has announced a plan to launch a new program that will offer free technology tutorials and rides to senior living communities.
Learn about the program and how it’s creating more transportation options for residents in senior living.
Uber Brings Service to Residents in Senior Living
In 2014, Uber created a ride service program called UberASSIST, which allowed seniors and “those needing an extra hand or access to wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAV) to request safe and reliable rides at the tap of a button.”
Senior riders have found the program to be easy-to-use, safe and affordable according to Uber, so, following the success of UberASSIST, the company recently announced their plans to launch a new pilot program for community-based senior outreach at the 2015 White House Conference on Aging.
The program is said to offer free technology tutorials and rides to select senior centers and senior living communities across the country, as part of an effort to “further the conversation about the way technology adoption can improve older adults’ day-to-day lives,” according to a statement from Uber.
“When a resident in a participating senior living community needs transportation, the company says that “he or she can request one at a more affordable rate” and that “free technology tutorials will be available throughout [the program], so residents of the participating centers can feel comfortable and at ease using Uber.”
The program is a considerable development for transportation options in senior living, as the number of Americans aged 65 and older grows to more than 71 million people — magnifying senior mobility.
