A place with dignity
reviewed on: 03/03/2014 by FrankieMy father is a very difficult person to place. His dementia has taken very strange directions. I had to place him in a memory care unit. Ashlan Village walked with me through these tough decisions and times. Their director, Bob, has such a great demeanor. As for the care givers, I tip my hat to all of them. They always smile and have pleasant things to say (even though I know how my father really is). I believe this is an exceptional care facility.

Nice staff

Guiding a parent to making a decision and acting on it.
reviewed on: 02/20/2016 by Deborah C.I encouraged my mother to make her own decision. I wanted her to go to a different facility with more activities and fewer frail, sick residents. However, she chose to go closer "to home" and where she already had 2-3 friends. It took over five years of talking to come to a comfortable place in which to make the decision. Do NOT wait until there is NO time. I mistakenly thought she had noticed that the residents were more frail than she. Her first day in the facility, she confided that she did not realize there were so many "old" people. My mother is 90 but is thankfully very independent and still drives on country roads. The only space available to her when we HAD to move, due to the sell of her home and property, was a 2-room suite. I think having the 2 rooms will help her mentally and emotionally in making a transition It does cost more. We have agreed to give it 3 -4 months and then assess the situation. The staff agrees and has placed her in the dining room with other residents who are in good health. On the plus side: she is safe; she is not alone out in the country; she made her own decisions (with me doing the paper work); the staff is wonderful and kind; the facility is clean and pretty inside and outside; there is a resident dog and cat; she likes the exercise program; the facility is on one level; she must walk to activities and the dining room (thus keeping active) but it is not too far; and the staff communicates with kindness but one has to ask questions -- no newcomer orientation. Lastly, it is only 1 hour away for me.
No Available Apartment At The Time
reviewed on: 01/11/2017 by AnonymousIt was a good experience and they were very friendly. I was very interested but there was no opening right away. I really wanted to move him in there but the other option was to share a room and that was not going to happen. It is a beautiful facility and a little more upscale and the same pricing as other similar communitites
