Solid hands on care
reviewed on: 03/28/2019 by Sharen StrongMy dad has lived in Avamere for over one year. Our family decided to move him out of Bonaventure due to our compounding concerns for his safety, the serious understaffing at that establishment, and the blatant denial and lack of concern exhibited by their management. We have found Avamere management to willingly work with our dad on how he wants to assistance in care. After a small set back in his health they have even temporarily provided service to see if he really needs the additional “points” added to his plan. He gets the care that he pays for. The staff are clean and friendly, the establishment is clean - it could use some freshening up but after prior experience, we would not trade a fancy facade for true care and attention for our dad.
Not The Right Fit
reviewed on: 10/30/2013 by DaughterThis was less of an assisted living and more of a skilled nursing facility. It was okay but I thought it would not be good for my mother. I don’t think she would do well in a skilled nursing facility, just in general. It would be a deterrent to her health. There was nothing wrong with Avamere but I didn’t think it would be a good fit.
More Limited Menu
reviewed on: 01/02/2014 by DaughterThey looked good, but they didn't have any openings so we didn't think too hard about that one. I think they had a more limited menu and my mom was super picky about her food and had dietary issues, so that would have been a problem.
Not a CARE facility!!!
reviewed on: 01/19/2019 by AnonymousMy 88 years old mother was just transferred there from Salem Hospital. First they said she could not call long distance to family unless she wanted to pay long distance charges. Secondly she received some dry rice and tough piece of chicken nothing she ordered and could not even eat it was so bad. She had a fall with broken hip and shoulder, and had to go to bathroom nearly wet the bed waiting so long. Then nurse came and left her over an hour on the bedpan til her legs were numb. When she finally returned there were no supplies set up for her arrival at the room. it wasn't stocked although they knew the transfer was occurring.....that's no welcome at all. I can't imagine leaving her here for her rehabilitation for any length of time. So upset, I need to get her transferred right away.
Don't stay there.
reviewed on: 11/12/2018 by dagnyI had the unfortunate experience of spending 20 long days at Avamere. The food was terrible. Their idea of an egg salad sandwich is a scoop of runny egg salad between two piece of white bread. No Lettuce. No butter. My roommate was taken to the bathroom and forgotten. She was yelling to get out. I started yelling too. Took about 15 minutes to get someone's attention (seemed like a lot longer).
