Community Reviews

Very happy with Southbrook!

reviewed on: 11/21/2020 by Bruce

Very happy with the great service our 93 year-old mother has gotten from Southbrook for the past year and a half. All the staff are very helpful and go over and above expectations for anything mom needs. Thanks to Safina who did a great job getting us set up and for supporting us ever since. Thanks also to everyone from the front desk to nursing to social to the dining room etc. etc. for all the great service and care! Of particular note, since Covid-19 hit the world, Brenda has shown great leadership and care in making sure all residents and staff are as safe as possible while allowing for family to connect when possible. Brenda and her staff have shown great attention to the safety and comfort of all residents at Southbrook while keeping family up-to-date via email communications. Their continued close monitoring/testing of staff and residents at Southbrook and swift reaction to any potential issues before any outbreak can take hold in the home has been remarkable! Thanks so much for taking care of mom and giving us the piece of mind to know she is in great hands and is as safe as possible in these trying times!

The best retirement home!!!

The best retirement home!!!

My mothers new home.

reviewed on: 09/26/2015 by Anonymous

Staff is freindly, facility is clean. Price is comperable or better than other homes I toured. Grounds are well kept. Monthly events calendar, with in house salon, laundry room, chapel, library etc. The facility is a good size without over crowding. The only complaint I hear from my mother and some others is the food is not so great, but served by pleasant staff and in a beautiful dining room.

Sanya was very knowledgeable about Southbrook. I was happy to meet with her. The residents seemed to be happy and so did the staff. Very clean.

Disappointed and disheartened

reviewed on: 12/17/2017 by CM

I am writing this review on behalf of my mother in law and her friends at Southbrook. My mother in law has been a long standing resident of Southbrook and has enjoyed her stay over the course of 5+ years. She enjoys the food, social activities and the home's general atmosphere. Until today, I have never heard her complain regarding Southbrook. Instead she has nothing but positive things to say regarding the staff, home and residents. That's why when I saw her on my last visit, I was shocked and disheartened to see my grandmother and her friends visibly upset over the fact that there is no social bus outings especially so close to the holiday season when the residents want to shop, get out and buy gifts for loved ones. There have been no lunch outings, shopping trips, theater venues or even a Christmas lights tour this year that so many of the elderly adore. Some of the ladies had mentioned that there hasn't been any outings in over 3 weeks and no communication from management as to when they will resume. There are no notices or poster posted or even a meeting held to inform the residents and families as to what is going on or simply why there is no outings all of a sudden. Instead, one of the ladies mentioned that when they inquired as to when they will be going out, they were told by management to take a taxi or ask their families to go out. This is an outrage and I personally find this to be despicable and encourage other families and residents to voice their concerns over such a matter. My mother in law pays over $3,000 a month for rent, not including extra services and the social outings were one of the reasons that drew my mother in law to Southbrook as she had just given up driving and now she is not even getting that. Also it is important to note that not all residents have family or friends that live locally to take them out. To advertise that you provide social outings and have a bus that is readily available to drive at any given moment just rotting away in the parking lot is a crime and false advertising. Why Southbrook doesn't have a staff member to drive the bus and take residents out is beyond me. Every other retirement home and long term facility has a recreation manager that can drive the bus and schedules weekly outings. Why hire someone who cannot do either? The ladies had mentioned that in the past all previous recreation managers could drive the bus and would take residents out weekly, so what has changed? Instead, the ladies mentioned that when they asked the recreation manager when she will be getting her license, instead of being professional and explaining the situation as to why there was no driver, she was snarky/snappy in her response and said I cannot just wave a magic wand and get my drivers license just like that. I find it appalling that a staff member, especially a member of management would feel comfortable or even remotely think that it is okay to talk to a group of seniors like that. I am disgusted by the lack of communication but even more so at the approach. Had it been the first time Southbrook was without a bus driver, I would be more understanding that it may be a transitional period where social outings have been temporarily cancelled but this seems to be a trend that occurs every couple of years. Southbrook seems to be losing it homely touch touch and appeal where they are more concerned by the corporate side of things and dollar figures while leaving the seniors to suffer.
