Community Reviews
So happy we found The Abbington of Powell!
reviewed on: 06/09/2017 by AnonymousWe were impressed by the tour, but from the moment they welcomed my family member in the door on move-in day, we knew we were home. We have never experienced a staff so friendly, caring, and responsive. On good days and bad, they have consistently demonstrated my family member's supportive care is their top priority. Despite my family member's cognitive deficits, they work to allow her maximum agency -- balancing who she is with her safety and care.
Working with A Place for Mom (Marion)
reviewed on: 12/18/2013 by Lisa C.I was at a complete loss when I was initially faced with the need for Assisted Living for my grandmother (I am her care-taker). I was panicked and at a total loss for direction. I had seen commercials on TV about A Place for Mom, so I took a chance. Within seconds of reviewing their website and providing my contact info, I received a call. The very next day I had a phone conference with Marion. AMAZING!! She provided me with so much information -- more than I had expected. She explained how the facilities are set up, how the costs are determined, the level of care based on my grandmother's needs, etc. etc. Honestly, if it wasn't for Marion's comfort and understanding, I'm not sure where my mental state would be right now. I did end up selecting Abbington of Powell .. it's very close to my home, which makes it even more comforting for me. The staff has been AMAZING!! With this life change happening so suddenly, Katie (the director), was prompt with her calls and organization of the entire process. As of right now, I can say I am very satisfied. So much so, that a friend of mine is considering Abbington of Powell for her mother. This entire experience has exceeded my expectations. THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!
Outstanding in comparison to other facilities
reviewed on: 05/17/2019 by Tom EblinAlthough my mother couldn't move into Abbington of Powell because of her dementia behavioral problems, I felt compelled to write this review due to the efforts and professionalism of Jonathan, the facilities manager. From the minute I walked into the facility I was impressed with the professionalism and friendliness of all of the staff. After a tour, I sat down with Jonathan to talk about my mother. Amazingly, due to his contacts in the industry, he had met her on visit to the facility where she currently resides. He went to extreme efforts to work with me on a timeline to move her to Abbington. He offered suggestions and guidance on dealing with Medicare. He was willing to work with my timeline as to when she needed to move in. When he said he was going to call me or was going to do something for me, he did it. This is something that I find is lacking in many of the facilities I have visited. Unfortunately for my Mom, her behavior precluded her from moving to Abbington of Powell. When Jonathan found out that information, he called me on a Saturday morning from his home. When Jonathan called me to give me the bad news, he had contacted numerous other facilities to attempt to help me find a place for her at the level of care she needed. Again, he did this on a Saturday while he was home with a sick child. He has since touched base with me to see how my search is going. The facility at Abbington of Powell is exceptionally clean and nice. I am sad that my Mom can't become a resident there because I could see that the level of care, compared to many other facilities I've visited, is exceptional. I would recommend this facility to anyone who has an aging parent, spouse or even for your own needs. Thanks Jonathan for you professionalism and for your care and concern.
