Plato is an incorporated village in northwestern Texas County, Missouri, United States. It is located about 20 miles northwest of Houston, Missouri and 10 miles south of Fort Leonard Wood on Route 32. The population was 109 at the 2010 census.The community was founded in 1874 and is named after the ancient Greek philosopher Plato. It is the birthplace of screenwriter Josh Senter who is known for his work on Desperate Housewives. As of the 2010 U.S. Census Plato is the Mean center of United States population of the distribution of the U.S. population.On November 13, 2012 Jason Beacham, a 15-year-old student at Plato R-V school, was featured in the television program Doomsday Preppers on the National Geographic Channel. The second episode of Season Two, titled Am I Nuts or Are You? interviewed Beacham about his plans for survival in the event of a national or worldwide economic collapse. Further, he demonstrated practicing with firearms, manufacturing homemade weapons, and initiating a friend into a small survivalist group of fellow students.
