Review of Odyssey Assisted Living at Montevue - Frederick, MD
reviewed on: 02/20/2016 by AnonymousThis is a county run facility and more than 60 of the residents are on Americare. My first impression when arriving is a very lovely and well maintained facility. The receptionist was on the telephone when I arrived and never acknowledged my presence I decided to take a seat and give her privacy on the phone since she did not seem as if she intended to take a breath and say I will be right with you or anything. Once she finally finished (truly 15 minutes) she just looked over at me and I looked back waiting for something to be said and finally she said can I help you. I explained I was there for a tour with Alice and I was a few minutes early since I had flown into town for the tour and was not sure how long it would take me to get there from my hotel. She very haughtily said well she is with someone right now asked did I have an appointment and I said yes. I said I knew I was early and could I use the restroom while I wait. She got the key and escorted me to the restroom and said where did you say you were from again I told her I was from Nashville she interrupted and asked if I was here for an interview. I said no I had an appointment through a place for mom she said it wasnt on her calendar and she manages her calendar but she would let her know and I am sure she can give you the tour. When Alice [Removed] finally came to greet me she went through this spill about not being aware of my appointment etc. I apologized and said I had received an email confirming. (By the way once I left I went and looked and not only had a received a confirmation from [Removed] - Alice personally sent me an email stating she looked forward to meeting me) The facility is very clean and very well maintained. It is laid out like hospital wings and is very well staffed with true nurses stations and I saw many residents out and about. The rooms apartments are all designed and set-up like a true hospital room - maybe a little bigger and yes you can bring your own furniture but it does feel like you are in a hospital. The dining area is large and the staff serves the residents from a buffet style meal. There are two sides to the dining room so the resident can sit in either dining room one with TV one without. It does allow continuum of care for the residents in a separate wing and is separated by a door. Calculating their rates is very easy one flat monthly fee that covers everything. I believe the facility was very efficiently maintained and has more RNs LPNs CNA etc than most what I did not feel was a real since of care and relationship building with the residents. Very clinical feeling - and I did not appreciate the lack of greeting and being told you werent aware when I was coming when I had your personal email. Did not leave a good taste in my mouth. ****My star rating reflects my opinion of the facility and their ability to reflect care****** My comments are for your knowledge and giving the benefit of the doubt that she just forgot - you take what you want from the review and leave what you dont.
Impressed, felt like home!

Amazing Staff
reviewed on: 10/08/2015 by AnonymousOne thing they did that was amazing, my mother-in-law had not had a bath for almost 3 years, and the facility she was in did not do anything to change that. Within three days at Odyssey she had a bath and is now doing that regularly. The way they deal with dementia patients is fantastic. She seems to be as happy as she can be. The staff is extremely friendly.
