A LIFE SAVER
reviewed on: 10/06/2016 by DonMy grandfather recently stayed at Ingleside and I must say it was a excellent experience for him and my family! The staff was excellent and attentive to his needs. The rehab team was pleasant, and persuasive. They always seem to keep a smile on his face while helping him get back on his feet. The food was good and the place was clean. He always had nice things to say when I visited him. I would recommend this facility to others for sure! Thank you Ingleside for helping get my Grand father back home!
A cosmopolitan environment
reviewed on: 12/11/2017 by Hans-Peter SturmOne of the things a appreciate most at Ingleside is the cosmopolitan atmosphere: The majority of residents has lived overseas for an extended period of time, and usually in various countries all over the globe. Residents are well informed and take a keen interest in both domestic and international development, facilitating stimulating discussions at dinner time. This cosmopolitan environment is reinforced by an excellent activities program, including on-campus lectures and cultural visits in the Washington area.
Happy Grandmother
reviewed on: 10/11/2016 by Ms. RobinsonIngleside at Rock Creek is an exceptional place. My grandmother has been a resident there for 2 years now. Every time my family visits her, the staff is pleasant. The facility is clean and very welcoming and we always have and continue to have pleasant experiences. The food that we have experienced there while visiting has been great. Although, she is in her 80's, she constantly tells us how she enjoys interacting with other residents her age and how they keep activities planned for her that she enjoys. While I know that some places in the DMV area are not good choices, we feel that we have made the perfect choice for her. She hasn't had one complaint and neither have we. Ingleside is a great place for family members who are independent but need a safe place to live where they can mingle with other seniors their age and still feel as though they are active citizens of society.
Great location but significant management issues
reviewed on: 01/14/2016 by Longtime residentI really would like to give Ingleside a better review. We've lived here many years and have wonderful friends. Some of the staff are kind, caring and dedicated people, qualities that initially attracted us. But in the past few years the management has been cutting staffing drastically. The quality of the people does not matter, what matters is how cheaply they will work. This has led to constant turnover, and you get what you pay for. Ingleside presents itself as a high-end facility, but when you look behind the curtains it's little better than a glossy McDonalds. I have to concur with the previus reviewer that Ingleside is declining. It is still an attractive facility, but once you look beyond the initial appearance the reality is sobering. The facility is very short-staffed, which was not the case we we moved in. The problem is most acute in the nursing home; we regularly visit a close friend who is resident there who suffers memory loss and the care she receives is appalling. She is incontinent and we often find that her clothes are sopping with urine. The staff does not check her frequently enough and if she needs any sort of assistance during dinner they just ignore her. The CNAs are busy feeding other residents and the nurses are not willing to do this sort of work. If you do not have someone who can advocate for you or cannot afford private nursing the staff is very neglectful. I am a retired accountant and based on the financial information I was able to procure it's clear that Ingleside is cutting its hourly staff while compensating upper management very well. The CEO makes close to 400K annually with salary and bonus and the sales and marketing director makes well over 300K. This is an absurd amount of money for a non-profit with an annual budget of less than 20 million. No other non-profit continuing care facility in the DC area pays this sort of salary. A careful reading of the contract reveals that Ingleside reserves the right to impose new fees at any time, and to raise existing fees by any amount they deem appropriate. The residents have no meaningful presence on the board. We have been here a long time, but when the time comes that we need nursing care, we will move to another facility. Ingleside has kept "Presbyterian" in their name, but I could not find any relationship with the Presbyterian church; the church authorities I contacted said they have no connection to Ingleside. Caveat emptor.
Don't move here!
reviewed on: 01/16/2020 by John OrbachFriends don't let friends move into Ingleside! This place is a horrible mess of a disaster! Don't let the brand new shining buildings fool you because the older buildings are slums. I know 2 former residents who literally give up tens of thousands of dollars just to get out of that hell hole. 2 of the mid rise buildings have single elevators which constantly break down, sometimes for 3 or 4 days. Can you imagine your 90 year old mother trapped in a building like that? How can the Fire Marshall allow something like this to go on? Some of the apartments had mold on the walls, and the water was found to have legionnella - a family member confirmed that 2 of the residents who lived there were diagnosed with Legionnaires disease. The place also has terrible management. They have had 4 different directors in 3 years and the staff changes all the time. If I could give 0 stars, I would.
